Department of Physics

Department of Physics was established in 2001 with the mission of imparting quality education in the field of Physics at UG level. The Department faculties are teaching Engineering Physics to the first year level of all branches of engineering courses to impart the knowledge and experimental skills to the student’s community.

Course Learning Objectives- Theory

This course (18PHY12/22) will enable students to:

  • Learn the basic concepts in physics which are very much essential in understanding and solving engineering related challenges
  • Gain the knowledge of newer concepts in model physics for the better appreciation of modern technology

Course Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, Students will be able to:

  • Understand various types of oscillations and their implication, the role of shock wave in various fields and recognized the elastic properties of materials for engineering application
  • Realize the interrelation between time varying electric field and magnetic field, the transverse nature of the EM waves and their role in optical fiber communication
  • Compute Eigen values, Eigen function, momentum of atomic and subatomic particle using time independent 1-D Schrodinger’s wave equation
  • Apprehend theoretical background of laser, construction and working of different types of laser and its application in different fields
  • Understand various electrical and thermal properties of material like conductors, semiconductor and dielectrics using different models

Course Learning Objectives- Practical

This course (18PHY16/26) will enable students to:

  • To realize experimentally, the mechanical, electrical and thermal properties of materials, concept of waves and oscillations
  • Design simple circuit and hence study the characteristics of semiconductor

Course Outcomes

Upon Completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Apprehend the concept of interference of light, diffraction of light, Fermi energy and magnetic effect of current
  • Understand the principle of operations of optical fiber and semiconductor devices such as photodiode, and NPN transistor using simple circuit
  • Determine elastic module and moment of inertia of given material with the help of suggested procedures
  • Recognize the resonance concept and its practical applications
  • Understand the importance of measurement procedure, honest recording and representing the data. Reproduction of final results
