Dr. B.L. Shivakumar, graduated in Civil Engineering (1977), Post Graduate Degree in Hydraulics and Water Resources Engineering (1979) from KREC (NITK, Surathkal) ,affiliated to Mysore University. He was awarded Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (2009) from UVCE, Bangalore University.
Dr. B.L. Shivakumar, joined R.V. College of Engineering as Lecturer in 1979, promoted as Assistant Professor in 1985. During 2007-2012, he was promoted as Professor and Head of Department, Civil Engineering. Since 2012-2017 he was Dean–Infrastructure, involved in Infrastructural Development of the College Campus. During his tenure in R. V. College of Engg, he has executed Rain Water Harvesting Systems for various buildings at RVCE campus and was a Consultant for Rain water harvesting projects to R.V. Institutions. He was also involved in Water management activities of RVCE campus. He has executed more than 30lakhs worth of funded projects. He was a Governing body member at RVCE.
He has published technical papers in various National, International conferences and Journals. He has guided 36 UG projects, 2M.Sc (Engg.) in Water Resources Engineering (VTU). Presently he is guiding 6 Ph.D. Candidates under VTU. He is a member of Institute of Engineers, Indian Water Works Association (IWWA), Institution of Public Health Engineers (IPHE), and Member Indian Society for Technical Education (MISTE) and Indian Association of Hydrologists (IAH).
After 38 years of continued service in R.V. College of Engineering, Dr. B. L Shivakumar attained superannuation on September 2017. Presently, he is Professor and Head, Department of Civil Engineering in JNANAVIKAS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, Bidadi since October 2017.
The Civil Engineering Department in Jnanavikas Institute of Technology produces calibered Civil Engineers for Infrastructural growth of the Society. They are capable to design and execute the construction of infrastructural components like buildings, roadways, railways, harbors and water resource structures for the growing industrial requirements of the country. The engineers are also ecological managers for sustainable development.
The students emerging out are efficient in planning, designing and constructing the projects to the required scale and also the maintenance of the projects. They will possess high standards of engineering knowledge.
The department has highly qualified professional teachers specialized in various Civil Engineering streams. The department has well equipped laboratories to meet the needs of outcome based technical education.
